GENERAL INFORMATIONFOR APPLICANTSFOR FAMILIES |
What is a Nanny? The majority of Nannies are qualified, having completed a 2 year intensive Childcare course at an accredited College. Examples of qualifications gained are NNEB, BTEC Diploma, and NVQ levels 2 and 3. All of these courses involve both written work and practical experience in all areas of baby and pre-school development and care. A Nanny without these qualifications will have had several years of relevant experience of working with children within a variety of age groups, and be able to provide sound references. You should feel confidence in the person you select, and trust them with the sole charge of your child. The Nanny will undertake a full range of duties and childcare for your baby and toddler, such as sterilising and preparing bottles, feeding, changing nappies, doing school runs, supervising homework, playing games, and generally providing a caring environment for your child. However, a Nanny's role is not that of a Housekeeper or Cleaner. Her role is to be employed as a childcare professional, and to look after your children and their needs, (which may include their washing and ironing, and keeping their rooms tidy), but not your general cleaning. Nannies can live in or out, and salaries will vary accordingly. Occasionally, it may be possible to find another family with which to share the employment, and costs, of the Nanny. What is a Mothers Help?Applicants who wish to work with children and babies, but who have neither qualifications nor work experience, are called Mother's Helps. They often work alongside an employer who is based at home, and therefore have the chance to gain hands-on childcare experience. A Mother's Help can be expected to undertake Household duties, but the emphasis is still on childcare rather than cleaning. The salary for a Mother's Help would be lower than that of a Nanny. What is a Caring Companion?Norma Lewis Domestic Staff Agency understands that providing care for frail, ageing parents or even a needy spouse is often extremely difficult. Whether you look after someone yourself at home, or oversee their welfare from further away, I can help you. |
